Get to know us

We're Wendy and Russ (and Schnitzel), owners of the Fox and The Grapes. The original home was built in 1885 by the Caywood Family and later owned by the Porter Family, who added the rear garages and room above in 1962.  They sold it in 2004, when it was restored and became The Fox and The Grapes in 2005.  Although the home has many qualities of an 1885 Victorian farm house, it also provides many of the modern day amenities required by most travelers and offers a warm, friendly, and cozy environment.

We know there are lots of places to stay in our area, but here are the top reasons why The Fox and the Grapes should be your #1 choice:

We are a legitimate bed and breakfast operating under state and county code regulations. We are inspected and fully insured.

A full breakfast is provided daily, with as many locally sourced ingredients as possible.  We cater to those with special dietary needs.

Our property offers many places, inside and out, to have an intimate conversation or fun with other guests; interior common spaces, outdoor porches, deck, and grounds with a beautiful view of Seneca Lake.

We are close to all the best wineries, breweries & distilleries (some within walking distance) such as Wagner, Lamoreaux, Silver Thread, Standing Stone, Lucky Hare, Scale House Brewing, just to name a few.

We are also close to some of the best restaurants (some are seasonal) in the area who serve lunch and/or dinner like the Dano's Heuriger on Seneca,  The Elf in the Oak, The Ginny Lee Cafe and the Stonecat Cafe.

Some of the best live music venues are minutes from us including Wagner (Summer Friday Pub Nights), Hazlitt Oasis (summer Friday music), Rasta Ranch (Monday Night Blues), Two Goats (music every weekend) and Stonecat Cafe (Wednesday Pub Nights in the summer).

For those who love the outdoors, we are close to the most beautiful gorges, waterfalls and hiking paths at nearby state parks and the national forest or play some golf, rent a kayak, or tour a vineyard. We can help you get started.

And finally, end your busy day with a great night's sleep in one of our 5 comfortable guest rooms, each with its own private bath and amenities sure to meet your needs.

We've tasted a lot of wonderful wine, beer and spirits, have sampled the local fare and explored many of the state parks and national forests. We've established wonderful relationships with many of the area businesses and in doing so, can help fill your days with the most exciting and memorable things to do.

Come and give us a try-we look forward to having you as our guest!
